Liminal: which is at the threshold of perception.

In collaboration with Toronto artist Ed Pien, Liminal was created for the M.A.I (Montréal Arts Interculturels) Centre and the Bishop's University Art Gallery in Lennoxville, Quebec. In this installation, each artist works to articulate a labyrinthine space where the viewer sometimes finds themselves in intimate, vast or illusionistic spaces, where the transparency of the paper/veil and the projection of light from the slides and videos play with their presence and those of others. The light/portraits deal with flight or levitation and are from Montrealers invited to participate in the creation of the work. These bodies move and float in space with the hope of defying gravity. Moreover, the shadows of these same people, captured on video tape and projected on a real scale, contribute to create a space that gives the spectator wandering in the installation, the impression that he is not alone.

The presence of the other is further accentuated by a soundtrack created by Barah Héon-Morissette in collaboration with the artists. The sounds captured in the artists' work space as well as the voices of the participants in the light/ portraits modulate the sensory perceptions of the spectator as he wanders from one liminal space to another. Thus, in his movement, the spectator must continually adjust his perception of the space in which he finds himself.
